A creature of habit,

each evening he comes for conversation

as I sit at my computer. He nudges and insists.

He lifts those dark brown piercing eyes and says

“I’m ready for my English lesson.”

And so the game begins:

I make the mouthy, dark, open circle emitting the Ohm.

Inspired, the expansive terrier in him tries so hard

to copy but guttural attempts remain a bark

and his mouth and tongue fail him again and again

to repeat what he hears. Yet …

the game continues! If he comes even close to something

other than a bark, I become excited and compliment him,

nodding and smiling “Yes! You did it!”

Papi is beside himself with joy!

And the more my face contorts and makes the round sound,

the more excited and inspired he becomes!

He’s rolling on the floor, now

in doggy laughter.

Yes, this is good and funny and descriptive, but then again, I’m not objective when it comes to popi.

I respect your criticism whether objective or subjective
